Interactive Map for Gun Violence in America

While waiting for the new year to make it's way to my house, I was searching Facebook for fun comments and wishing friends a Happy New Year.  During my search I discovered a link to a rather interesting map displaying Gun Violence in America from thetrace.org.

Each dot in the map points to a specific incident involving a gun sometime within the last five years.  The map is interactive so anyone can zoom in and read what the incident was all about: accidental shooting, drive by, terrorist, etc.

The moment I looked at the map i realized two things.
1. it seems that gun violence is highest in highly populated areas..shocker.
2. The Mountain time Zone appears to be the safest in the US.

After my initial observation I began looking at areas near me, my family and my friends to see what may have happened in the area.  Some of it was very shocking while others were sad fatal accidents. It turns out that not all Gun Violence is hate crime, terrorist attacks or "wild west man facing man and shoot on 3" attacks.  A lot of labeled gun violence is accidental fatal shots while hunting or an improperly stored gun being played with by a child. While sad and avoidable, I wouldn't call it Violence.   Still it is a very interesting map to look at. I wish they would have done the world.  (Of course that would have been a huge undertaking.) . Check it out for yourself at thetrace.org.

What is the most interesting or shocking thing you learned from the map?  answer in the comments below.
