The Wright Brothers, Aviation's First Powered Airplane Flight or was it?
A brief picture history of powered commercial airplanes from 1903 - 2014 and from 1000 BC to '0' AD.
They Taught the World to Fly!
Wind, sand, and a dream of flight brought Wilbur and Orville Wright to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina where, after four years of experimentation, they achieved the first successful airplane flights in 1903. With courage and perseverance, these self-taught engineers relied on teamwork and application of the scientific process. What they achieved changed our world forever.
1903 - 110 years since this great day in aviation history and look at how far we have come.
1918 saw the beginning of air mail service. This was quite a leap from the Pony Express.
By the 1940's we had regular airline flights:
Twin Beech 18
McDonald Douglass DC-3
Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation (1954)
The Boeing 720 entered service in 1960
Today we have Boeing 787 Dreamliner
Boeing 787 Dreamliner Combat Takeoff & Tailwind Landing.
That is a pretty amazing history for commercial aviation in just a little over 100 years, but it gets better.
How far have we come inside the Black Ops area. You may be surprised.

We have been there and done that and beyond!
But were we the first on planet earth to fly, not counting birds of course?

Decorating an Egyptian temple wall at Abydos are strange hieroglyphics which depict what appears to be modern day aircraft. This finding has caused much controversy among Egyptologists and archaeologists who are not sure what to think. How could people 2-3,000 years ago possibly have known about modern-day aircraft?
When Dr. Ruth Hover and her husband took a trip to the pyramids and temples of Egypt, they were shocked when they discovered, in the temple at Abydos, hieroglyphics depicting modern-day aircraft. 2000-3000 year old helicopter compared to modern counter part.
I guess some of our history teachers missed this part of their training before teaching us about history.
More aircraft from the distant past.
The horizontal tail has been broken of at some point before recovery from the ancient artifacts. An aerodynamic engineer built a scale model of this design to see if it would actually fly and it flies beautifully.
As far as I know these have not been flight tested like the one above.
To wrap up this post of aviation history in pictures we'll move to space.
The Dark Knight is estimated to be 13,000 years old, it orbits earth in a polar orbit and at times leaves for a period time and then later returns to orbit. First pictures taken by NASA in the 1990's. (Google it, Dark Knight)
I wonder what else history holds that we haven't told by those in control.
